What our parents say

  • Claire Strumpher (Parent of Emma Strumpher)

My daughter Emma really enjoyed being at Cedar Crest and we were impressed with how quickly she excelled academically with the advanced academic programme. At age 4-5 she was recognising all the letters of the alphabet & writing most of them & numbers without copying, grasped phonics & able to say the starting letter of words, counting to 100 (with minimal errors).
She was on par with my son in Grade 1 due to the curriculum!
The staff are all wonderful and Emma loved going to school!
I was impressed with the security at the school & meet & greet in the morning from the principal or manager. Each child was greeted indivually & welcomed to school!
A healthy eating programme is enforced ensuring no sugary foods & drinks are packed into lunch boxes thus fostering good eating habits from a young age and also minimising bad behaviour from a sugar rush!
We highly recommend Cedar Crest for academic excellence & meeting the emotional & psychosocial needs of your child.

Dear Arlene and Cedar Crest Family,

Mid way during the second term of my son’s grade 1 year, I am overwhelmed with thankfulness for the solid all round preparation he has received as a student at Cedar Crest Nursery School, during the 4 years he attended. Even though he moved from a school with 62 kids to a school with 120 kids in his grade, he was confident and happy to embark on this new adventure, as Cedar Crest created a secure environment from where he could venture forth with confidence. I can say with confidence that Judah had no gaps in his grade one year. In some ways it almost felt that his abilities were far ahead of the homework he was expected to do. (And how relieved I was that he had been at Cedar Crest, when his home work one day was to learn the months of the year. I would hate to have to try and teach that to any child in one day! He knew it already from nursery school)

I appreciate the principal and her staff’s approachability and maturity in handling issues concerning my son. I value Arlene’s wisdom, years of experience and level headedness and her availability to sit down in her office with me, whenever I had a need to discuss my own parenting skills or any concerns that I might have had.

The commitment of the school to establish great relational interaction and emotional intelligence in their students, sets it apart from other schools. Thanks to Ms Manners and the ethos of the school, my son was trained in polite interaction and good manners. I am amazed at the bond he still has with other students from Cedar Crest, even though he is no longer in the same school with them.

Cedar Crest Nursery School is a real gem in this community and I recommend it whole heartedly to my friends and anyone who is searching for a great starting point for their child’s educational journey.

Our daughter has been at Cedar Crest since 2014, shortly after she joined it was discovered that she had a learning disability. Cedar Crest has been very supportive over this period and has shown such interest and dedication in assisting our daughter with all challenges she faces on a daily basis and always has her best interest at heart, especially when it comes to her learning. Cedar Crest is a warm and loving school and has a fantastic ethos. Our daughter is happy and thrives at Cedar Crest. We are very grateful for all the support and care Arlene and her staff have shown.

We couldn’t have started our child’s education at a better place than Cedar Crest Nursery School. We enrolled our daughter, turning 5 this year, when she was 18 months old. Since then she has developed into a little lady, thanks to the wonderful teachers and assistants she’s had. She’s learned so much – not just about numbers, songs and the alphabet – but about manners, making friends and to eat vegetables! Here they learn and play in a friendly and safe environment. The staff, from the principal, teachers and assistants to the cook and handyman, are always friendly and eager to assist. The principal’s door is always open and she handles any challenge with a smile.
We are proud to say that our child is in Cedar Crest. We got so much more than we ever expected.

We have been part of the Cedar Crest family for almost 3 years and would still be part of it, if we were not faced with an opportunity to relocate from Cape Town. One of our saddest moments of our big move was saying goodbye to this incredible school and its most amazing staff. Run by Arlene a woman with impeccable integrity and values; my children were blessed with so much love, care and affection on a daily basis and not forgetting being taught such a well-structured curriculum, allowing so much development to take place in those tiny minds of our most precious beings. Thank you Arlene and staff for providing such a clean, nurturing and loving environment for Neha and Aryan, I am forever grateful for all that you did for me and my children. Be blessed with many many years of success.
